"I originally designed the diamond mechanism to be used for my notebook (Diamond Book). The mechanism is very elegant and I have had it in mind for a box for five years now. The Diamond Box is a continuation of the Decorated Box and Braided Box. It utilizes a well-concealed hidden movement to keep it safely locked. The surprising thing is when the correct movement is applied the diamond on the top of the box changes color.

This box is also a puzzle to solve in reverse. That is, if you give it to someone who has not seen it opened, it would just as challenging to figure out how to put the lid back on.

This box will be released in two small editions. One of figured West Coast Big Leaf Maple. The other edition is being made of solid Lignum Vitae.

The original Walnut Diamond Box I made as a one-of-a-kind box and donated it to an auction being held to raise funds for disaster relief of the recent flooding in Australia. The Walnut Diamond Box auctioned for $3585.00. I was very pleased to make such a wonderful contribution, and I very much look forward to the next time the world puzzle community comes together to help out others in need.

In this case the Diamond is Ebony when locked and Pink Ivory when unlocked. Pink Ivory is a very colorful wood from South Africa. It is quite rare and only available in very small quantities." -Kagen Schaefer
