SmartEgg - András Zagyvai

Post by Paradox » May 4th, 2016, 8:44 am

I'm looking to find a copy of one of the wooden SmartEggs made by András Zagyvai.

I had the pleasure of meeting András and his family years ago, but sadly never bought a SmartEgg myself.

I know they're in limited number, but hopefully someone will be happy to part with theirs if it's going to a good home (in exchange for money/other puzzles...that probably helps too).

I can't help you with the wooden one (I assume you are looking for). I was just going to point out that puzzle master has a series of smarteggs for pretty cheap: https://www.puzzlemaster.ca/browse/inventors/andras/

I have the Lava which was supposed to be the hard one at the time I got it. I have to say, it was extremely easy and was solved within 30 seconds or so. Though the description mentions Andras, it doesn't seem they really compare to the wooden one with moving parts.

It blows my mind that they rated it a level 9 - grueling... Unless I'm missing something, I just don't get that at all. The rating is more of a puzzle than the puzzle itself.

Edit: It looks like they now make "2-layer" eggs with moving parts. I don't think they were available when I got mine, but that might be more like what you are looking for. Even if you can't get your hands on the collectible, it might still be fun to solve some of the plastic versions. Puzzlemaster now has the 2-layer eggs. Also more info here: http://smarteggtoy.com/index.php/2-layer-collection/
The Black Dragon says it requires 80 moves to solve... That might be a good one to test out for a seasoned puzzler as yourself.
