Re: Newcomer to Burrs

My Burrly Sane for Woodworkers has notchable pieces only. The level is 138. I believe this is the highest level for notchable 18-piece burr designs. You can find the design on http://puzzlewillbeplayed.com/18PieceBurrT/BurrlySane/Woodworkers/ . It needs three kinds of wood and a routing pattern on t...

Re: Newcomer to Burrs

Hi Scott, There's nothing wrong with what you're doing, as long as you respect the intellectual property of the designer of the burr you make. If you are making multiple copies to distribute, you should ask the designer for permission. By the way, where can I find the Facebook page you mention? Rega...

Re: Solution for 18 piece wooden puzzle please

I think you have two puzzles:
- the 12 (!) identical pieces are an Altekruse 12 puzzle;
- the other 6 pieces form a standard chinese cross puzzle.

Best regards,
Jack

Re: Free-the-Monkeys

... The other puzzle of the week-end is going to be wicked ! The name is Congestion. It was created by Goh Pit Khiam, and I heard that Jack Krijnen took part in its conception (not certain about it, Jack, if you are around...). ... I'm around now :D My contribution to the design was minimal. Pit kh...

Re: Pictures of your collection - discussion

I really would love to take another up to date photo of my collection now, but it just takes so much effort to get them all out into one place and then back again. The last photo took me about 3 hours to take, and now there must be another hundred or so puzzles added since then! That's why I used l...

Re: Pictures of your collection - discussion

Bubinga is a wood with good woodworking properties, and a nice and warm look. It is quite stable over time. I keep some of my puzzles on a shelf in the living, and most of them in display cases. Light conditions are normal, just inside light in the house. In two years time I haven't noticed much dec...

Re: Your top 5 favourite puzzles

I always like a challenge, and a challenge it is to name your top 5 of puzzles! My choice might not be for the most difficult or lengthy puzzles. I appreciate the uncommon, the surprise a puzzle offers. Where does that lead to? Most certainly Cutler's Blockhead is on my shortlist; I've often enjoyed...

Re: 18-piece burrs that can be solved

Full level is 7.4.4.5.1.2.1... or 7.4.3.5.2.1.1...; it depends on the order of the pieces. BT searches for a shortest sequence of moves to free the first piece. So, the starting position for further analysis can vary.
