Re: 18 Piece Wooden Cube

It's a standard 18 piece burr with 1 assembly and a level 1.1.2.2.1.1.2 solution. If you're familiar with BurrTools you'll easily find how to assemble.
Good luck!

Re: Old burr puzzle

Hi Splinter,

The solution can easily be found by the use of Burrtools. It can also supply pictures of the distinct steps of the solution. If you are not familiar with Burrtools it's little trouble for me to help you. Just send me pictures showing the shape of the six pieces.

Best regards,
Jack

Re: Looking for a 18 piece burr design

That puzzle really looks good! I have the same experience as Guillaume using Danish oil; it slightly expands the pieces and is difficult to use with small tolerances. Lately I prefer to use wax: first sand the pieces with 600 grid, apply wax and finally polish. It also smooths the movement.

Re: Looking for a 18 piece burr design

There aren't many high level 18 piece burrs with a unique solution not depending on colour or routing pattern. Jiminy Jack (also by me, also level 43) and Burrloon (Goh Pit Khiam, level 33) are other examples. Both have the nice property (from a maker's perspective) of notchable pieces only. Tippera...

The other two burrs are Marineau's Piston Puzzle, made from zebrano, and a 3D printed souvenir puzzle from DCD 2012.

Re: (Nearly) the smallest burr in the world

Hello all, The puzzle Guillaume is referring to is Assembler's Challenge. At the time I deliberately designed an 18 piece burr that would not only be a disassembly problem, but a assembly challenge as well. There's only one assembly, and it has a unique solution of level 7. I thought this puzzle a g...

Re: wood for making burr puzzles

Hi, I skipped using beech because I think it has a dull appearance. But it is a fine wood to work with for making burrs. What are the problems you are referring to? Fine woods -and cheap- to work with are mahogany and maple. I've good experiences with both. They also look nice after finishing. You j...

Well, that's an other sort of puzzle conservation!
I wonder what the inside will look like when you finally succeed in disassembling! After years of darkness...
